Sounds won't play for Windows program events in User account
In my User account I can't hear Windows sounds anymore when a program event occurs, such as when I log into Windows. Nor can I hear the sounds when I try playing them in Control Panel / Sound / Sounds, even when the Windows default sound theme is selected. I first noticed this malfunction last week.
There's nothing wrong with the computer's sound card since I can hear sounds just fine in YouTube and when using Windows Media Player. I can go to the folder c:\windows\media and play back any of the sound files in it. The volume control has continually been set to 100%.
What can be wrong? When logged in as Administrator I can hear a sound whenever a program event occurs. The same with when I'm logged into the Guest account. The problem has to do with my User account.
Could my User profile be corrupt? Do I need to create a new profile and copy files from the User account profile to the new one? I'm not sure about the need for this as I didn't see any evidence of corruption in the Registry key ProfileList. See the attached MS Word file with a screenshot of the ProfileList key and subkeys. Or do I need to do a repair install?
