Need help recovering device disconnect sound feature

    Windows 7 Pro

I know this may sound silly but the choice of device disconnect sound is missing from my Control Panel.
It is on my other computers.

Wonder if anyone can suggest a way to put it back short of reinstalling Windows?

I like it for when I disconnect an external USB drive.

    Thanks for reading this.

I don't, but are you aware of Repair Install - Windows 7 Help Forums

Run from within windows, replaces your OS, keeps everything else!

I'm trying to be sure I have Windows 7 pro.
The Windows DVD says my version is not compatible with the DVD.
    Can't believe it.

Nothing seems to be going right in the MINOR (?) project.

Is the problem because you have set a custom Sound Scheme? Maybe the default Sound Scheme will bring the list up again.

Also worth a check. Look in \Windows\media directory for the presence of a "Hardware Remove" sound file.

I'll give it a try BUT the same scheme in on all five of my computer have a sort of custom scheme and they have a requirement for disconnect USB device.

I have come to believe that the missing thing is not worth worrying about.

    Thanks for checking in.
