    @ArtMurphy & @wither 2

Sometimes the latest and greatest Realtek audio drivers mentioned in another thread of this forum are not the best drivers for certain machines and may not provide all the config options available. Customized Realtek drivers obtained directly from the manufacturer (in this case Dell) may be required for full functionality.

As to why ArtMurphy does not have the Realtek HD Audio Manager on his Inspiron 3847 but I do on my relative's Inspiron 580 (the PCs were made in different eras - kinda like comparing apples to oranges), read this Dell forum topic of what became of it:
    https://www.dell.com/community/Lapto...r/td-p/5186936
Many Dell laptops/PCs made after 2013, 2014 & beyond that use Realtek HD audio drivers will have a Dell Audio control panel instead of the classic Realtek Audio Manager (cuz Dell told Realtek to set their audio drivers to use the Dell Audio app on newer Dell machines but on old Dell PCs w/ Realtek audio the drivers will use the older audio manager app)

This is the page in the speaker manual for the connecting the speakers-

Seems to me we've been connecting correctly since I guess you have a "integrated sound solution."

Hey W2 - what system specs show an Optiplex 780? I definitely have the Inspiron as per your manual - yep that's mine. Subwoofer IS plugged into green and always has been - my problem is sound worked last week, what made it change???

erpster4 - I've tried using other speakers and nada. It is very frustrating to have nothing work, there must be a solution out there!

Thanks for help and suggestions guys - any more ideas and I'll try em.

In the lower left hand corner of a post, it has "My System Specs." Clicking on that will show a description of your system. That's where I see the 780.

Did you check in your BIOS to see if the sound is enabled as discussed by Chris-M here-

Oh, that was for another computer :)

I was excited about BIOS, but sound was already enabled unfortunately.

What happens if you plug it into the headphone jack and enable it?

That begs the question- does it work with head phones?

possible onboard Realtek audio device failure or broken audio jacks on the Inspiron 3847 (hardware problem)?

Can you tell me the hardware device ID of your "Realtek Audio" device in Device Manager (devmgmt.msc), ArtMurphy?

Use any of the links below to find Hardware ID in Device Manager
How to Find Drivers for Devices Using a Hardware ID
How to Find Hardware ID: 9 Steps (with Pictures) - wikiHow

Ex. the Hardware Device ID for Realtek Audio on my relative's Dell Inspiron 580 computer is listed as the following in Device Manager:
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0887&SUBSYS_10280438&REV_1002
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0887&SUBSYS_10280438
