    Soundmax Audio - Windows 7

Im about to break this computer with all the problems I've had with it.
My motherboard - ASUS M2N-MX (nothing else, no SE, no plus, just strait up). In the bios, HD Audio is selected VS AC'97. My problem is this. The windows update drivers dont work. It says its all fine, but, the sound icon says sound is being played, but my speakers don't make sound. Now, when I go to download other drivers, the following always happens (one of them)

    • No sound at all
    • Sound until reboot but then non when I re-log in
    • Sound works then cuts out for good
    • Sound works for a while then cuts out but comes back about 10-15 minutes later and lasts for a while. (Reboots usually solve this)
    • Loud crackling pops static and one time just total white noise (demonic possession?)

I don't know what to do here. I've tried every driver from the ASUS website and half them from these and other forums. I installed direct X 9, my chipset drivers (nForce 430 I think?) The other thing is Im using Windows 7 Ultimate 64x edition. Anyone have ANY clue what the problem is? I can give a list of driver file-names that I have tried and havnt worked...Attached is that image.

The drivers with a blue check are the ones that produced the most long lasting results, but suffered from the 4th issue, so they are still not finalized. I'm looking to upgrade to a 1 TB HD but Im doing the testing I need to on the 40 gb before I go and commit. If I can't solve this problem with drivers, I was thinking about upgrading to a better motherboard, as Im due for an update anyway.

Asus M4A785-M Motherboard & AMD Athlon II X4 620 Quad Core Processor w/Fan Bundle at TigerDirect.com

I was looking at this one in particular.

Any idea if this would work? I found windows 7 drivers on the ASUS site and the windows 7 compatibility center says its compatible, so, it looks like a good choice? Also, with this, I need to know about power consumption. I ahve a 350W power supply. I also have two DVD drives (one sata, one IDE) and two-three HDs. One 160 GB sata, 1 1TB sata, and 1 40 GB IDE. My GFX card is a GeFroce 8500 GT. I also have some misc cards for WiFi and others. I can drop up to 1 DVD drive and the IDE HD, and probably the WiFi, but, if I need to, I'll upgrade the power supply. So just give some recommendations?

Sorry for asking a lot, but, I registered exactly to post this because everything Iv seen on this forums doesnt work for me.

    Hi and welcome

Have you looked in device manager to insure the driver is installed and working?
type device manager in search>sound tab>right click>properties. Is the card listed? does it have a yellow triangle on it? are there any other "unknown" device listed with yellow triangles?

    This device is working properly.

The drivers for this device will be uninstalled when the machine is restarted. Any changes you make to this device will not be preserved.

You need to restart your computer before the changes you made to this device will take effect.
Only because I removed the drivers as they were defective. But the sound device has ALWAYS said it was working. The device name is "SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio". It has never displayed any yellow warning triangles. And my system has no 'unknown devices'

So far, with the one set of drivers, Iv only had one cut out for about 15 minutes, but it's been working solid so far.

Edit : Now this is strange. I rebooted after uninstalling, and, instead of Windows Update installing its usual crappy not working drivers, it installed SoundMax and works perfect...Ill never understand this.
