How to Control Sound for My New Speakers

I have a new Companion« 5 multimedia speaker system connected to my Windows 7 pc. Installation was simple and no issues. System plays great. However, instead of the usual 'jack-type' connection these speakers connect via USB. I think this is the reason I cannot utilize the Realtek HD Audio Manager to fine-tune my sound. When I make it the default the speakers have no sound.

Is there a way to get these speakers and the Realtek manager to communicate?

1. A configuration tweak or registry mod?

2. Maybe a USB-to-3.5mm adapter?

3. A Realtek Manager-type s/w that 'does' USB-connected speakers?

-thx

The web is full of blogs on this subject and the ones I looked at didn't provide what i call a universal solution.

Click on your speakers and then select Properties in Sound. In the Custom tab, is "digital output only" selected? if so, deselect it.

Does that help?

wither 2 - thank you so much for your reply. Unfortunately, as per the image, there is no 'Custom' tab. I also poked around and could not find a 'digital ouput only' setting.

My apologies. Look in the Properties of the Realtek Speakers selection.

Resolved by running a 3.5mm cable from the pc audio line-out to the line-in/aux of the Bose Controller.
