How do I configure Microsoft sound mapper?

My audio player defaults to "Microsoft sound mapper" as the output device. It works sometimes. Other times I get an error, "A device id has been used that is out of range for your system." When I set the output device to "High definition audio" instead of "Microsoft sound mapper", then the sound works without showing an error message. How do I make Microsoft sound mapper go directly to "High definition audio" all the time? "High definition audio" is already the default playback device in windows, but it seems some programs first go to Microsoft sound mapper instead. Now I'm getting a different output error even without using Microsoft sound mapper. Any suggestions?

Are you right clicking the audio icon in the Task Manger below, selecting Playback devices? In there on the Playback tab you select a device, then set the device as default using the button labeled as such.

The high definition audio seems to me it's from your HDMI ports for the monitor. You want the speakers option if there is one. Might be the first option.

What are the full specs of your computer? Make & model. If custom build, motherboard make and model. Do you have a dedicated sound card you installed? If so, what is it's make and model?
