(assuming you're replying to me) My front panel ports are HD compliant.

Hello all,

I'm having a very similar issue - my Realtek's ALC887 is using SPDIF by default (works), but headphones give no sound when I plug them in - not until I manually change them to be the default device.

If anyone knows a way around this, I'd be very keen to hear it.

Uninstalling and letting Windows re-detect (while leaving the drivers in place) worked for me! Big thanks to fireberd for the tip!

I tried Firebird's suggestion, but it didn't work. And now SoundMax is gone, and it uses HD Digital Audio - or something along those lines - instead (SoundMax appears in my control panel, but when I click on it, nothing happens). This Audio driver seems worse than the SoundMax one, and if neither are going to correctly mute the sound when headphones are plugged in (and automatically switch to headphones), then I want to use SoundMax again.

So, do I have to dl and re-install the SoundMax drivers (from Asus)? I dl'ed it, just wanting to make sure this is the right thing to do before I do it. Would dl'ing the RealTek driver be beneficial at all? Or would that even work?

Thanks.
