What kind of mic are you using? Generally the "computer mic's" are not good fidelity.

yea, but when i have it on an external sound card it sounds fine. Its just a basic mic from walmart, even my headset mic doesnt sound as good as it did on my old mobo soundcard.

About the only thing you can do, if your sound module's drivers allow is to change the recording number of bits (my sound card allows 16 to 24 bit and the 24 bit is best) and also frequency (my sound card allows 48000 HZ "studio quality"). Check the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Sound Panel. Click on recording and then RIGHT click on the microphone and LEFT click on Properties and if you have an Advanced tab that is where you can change the mic recording properties.
