I'm returning my new acer multimedia desktop for repair. I'm using my old laptop now I'm not so sure it's Windows 7 related anymore. We all just may have some piece of hardware going out. One techie guy on another board thought it could be the motherboard because my new external sound card had the same crackling and skipping. I'm bummed, this is a pain and will just cost more money.

Not me, my mobo asus p5q pro turbo is windows 7 compatible i bought it a few week ago cause my older intel DG35EC wasn't.

Under windows XP i didn't have this kind of problem. Im blaming windows 7 100%.

I don't know what to believe anymore. Oh well, it's going to be acers problem now. I will just keep sending it in every time something doesn't work. My whole computer is four weeks old and has this problem. It came with Windows 7 64 bit premium so I imagine the mobo is compatible too. It could just be broke. I was thinking about it though and if windows 7 really caused all this wouldn't there be millions of people complaining about it? I could only really find this problem in these forums.

As hard to believe is it may sound by the system might not be picking up the correct .inf file to use.
Your idea sounds interesting. Would you write a tutorial on how to compare PCI hardware IDs with the driver inf file?

So not everybody has this problem right? interesting... I change of mobo and the problem remains.

For example, when i pause a movie when using vlc media player (latest version) the sound cracks and it is not smooth anymore.

My computer is only a week old and it's impossible to listen to music on it becouse of cracking and slow playing. Olso my friend upgraded vista to seven and he is having the same problem now so it is definitely a windows 7 problem.

Me three! Between reinstalling drivers and the odd microsoft update over the last couple of months my sound has settled down and no more glitches.

I too thought it woz not enough processor power coz I run a Barton 3000 on a 7 yr old socket A motherboard - but no it is purely crap implementation of various drivers and their interaction between each other on Windows 7.
(By the way all my MP3's are played/recorded on highest MP3 setting 320Kbps)

I was checking out the memory area used (in 'system') and Realtek shares with USB 2.0 chipset (with a very close/similar numeric memory mapped area)
- poss could the glitch problem be when USB Wireless download/Mouse movement/Sound kick into action etc
