RadioShark & Windows 7

I have a RadioShark (Griffin Technology) that records and allows replay of AM and FM radio programs. I've successfully installed it on my new Dell Inspirion with Windows 7 and it shows up and even lets me set up programs, but I can't hear any playback. The Griffin website says to change my Audio so that the RadioShark is the default but I can't figure out how to do that. I've looked at all possible options on the control panel but nothing seems to work. And nope, it's not on Mute : )

Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem. To fix this: Click the Start menu> type sound> under "Control Panel" click sound> click the "Recording" tab> Find the radioSHARK mine is labled as an analog connector> RIght Click on it and click on properties> Click the listen tab> Check the "Listen to this device"> Select your speakers in the drop-down box below the check box. Now this should have fixed it otherwise check your sound settings to make sure it is not muted. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response! I tried it and it still won't work. I can't hear it "live" and when I try to play back a recorded program (I've tried saving the programs as WMA, WAV, and MP3 files) nothing happens. When I saved it as an MP3 and tried to play it with my iTunes, it shows that there is nothing recorded (in the Time column it shows 00). As a WMA, it opens up the Windows Media Player and it acts the same way - I hit play and it immediately gives me the option to "Play Again" as if there isn't anything there. Sooooo frustrating! But I really appreciate your trying to help

I had the same problem as Jama212 and was able to get it working again using your fix.

The only bump in the road was that my radioShark did not appear in the list of recording devices. I had to right click in the list box and choose to show disabled devices. Then I could right click on it and click on properties> Click the listen tab> Check the "Listen to this device"

So I was having the same problem with the 00:00 recording's. It seems that the way I told you to fix it doesn't actually fix it completely. My way is allowing you to listen to the device. The way it is supposed to work is with your speakers playing sound that the RadioSHARK program gives it, in a sense. At one point my RadioSHARK program crashed and after I opened it again I noticed that there was an echo. I found out that this was caused because I was listening to the device ( caused by the solution I told you) and now the program was listed in the Mixer (which can be accessed through the volume control near the clock and date area). So I muted the device itself and sure enough the program was also playing a radio station. I then tried the recording feature again and my recordings were actually recording to the track. I would try changing some settings. This is what I was doing when it crashed. Otherwise try restarting the program as an administrator ( Right Click on the program> Click Run as Administrator) Hope this helps.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! The combination of all the answers did the trick. The "right click" advice to find the radio shark was the piece I was missing. I really appreciated all of you helping me out. The Windows 7 journey has been interesting to say the least. Thanks.

I think I have an easier solution: just run the Radio Shark software in Vista compatibility mode. This works better than the previous workaround that was posted (i.e., selecting listen to analog device). I have a Radio Shark 2.

I found a way to make the radio shark work on my system windows seven system kinda.
Software required.
VMware player 4.0.2 (which is now a free download)
Windows XP Pro upgraded to SP3 (which ofcourse isnt free)

Just install XP as a Virtual Machine configure it to have enough ram to run easily without bogging down the physical system.

Install the RadioShark

Install RadioShark 2 Software.

From there it should just be plug and play.. and record works.

If it isnt just modify the sound settings in XP

Also do not attempt with VMware server as the name suggest it was made for servers eg. headless, no audio card automatically and no support for audio streams. which this is

This forum is a godsend. I was able to run RadioShark in Windows XP compatibility mode, and it works just like it's supposed to except that there is this background noise (kind of like a low roar). Any suggestions on how to get rid of this?
