No Sound After RAM Upgrade

My PC
OS : MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
CPU : AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+
Motherboard : ASUSTeK M2V VIA K8T900
Memory : 2x1GB Corsair Dual Channel DDR2 800Mhz (5-5-5-18)
Graphics Card : 512MB Radeon X1650
Sound Card : Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro

I have had no problems, until now. This Christmas i got 2x2GB Dual Channel DDR2 800Mhz. I installed them and booted up windows 7. Everything seemed fine, until i noticed there was no sound! I investigated further to find that no sound was being processed through my feedback monitor. It was also interesting to see that WMP refused to play MP3s, and album art would flicker. VLC can play MP3s, and also CDs work but of course no audio.

So next i have Tried all the different possible combinations of ram. The only working configurations apart from the original was one of the new sticks on there own, or also one new and one old. All the other configurations render the sound problem. I have also swapped ram with another computer to check the ram, and it works fine on the other computer, and the ram from that PC doesn't work on mine. I have goggled far and wide to find a solution and cannot find anything even remotely similar. i have also updated my BIOS in a attempt to correct the problem, and i have run a diagnostic of my sound card with the bundled software, yet it says everything is fine.

Any ideas, solutions or any kind of input would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure that the ram frequency are the same. I generally suggest not to mix and match, but to buy the whole set new. It can be diffiucult to mix and match.

Go to task manager and make sure that all ram is recognized. Go to event viewer look for errors or problems. Go to device manager make sure all drivers are working and up to date.

They are all the same frequency. I have also tried to get it to work without mix and match, with just the 2 new sticks of memory, and the problem persists, however it doesn't if i use just one of the new sticks.

The ram is always recognized by windows, in any configuration. All devices are working properly according to device manager and i looked at event viewer, not really sure what to look for with this program, but nothing critical is jumping out at me.

My dad suggested that the problem is a lot more simple that it seems. Perhaps the problem is that the sound card doesn't like more than 3GB of RAM, it also might have something to do with the 64-bit setup

I had this happen once.

Something you can try:

Shut down your PC, and remove the power.
Completely remove the Sound card, and then Re-seat it.
Try again and see if the issue is fixed..

This happened to me a while back, after a RAM upgrade. i most likely bumped the card(possibly unseating it it just slightly), and its possible you may have unknowingly done the same, just as i had.

After shutting down and re-seating it all was good again :)

Something ive left out, when i put the original RAM back in the sound card works again. However i have nothing too loose from re sitting it so i will give it a try. It also means i can try it without sound card and see if onboard sound works with the extra RAM. Thanks for your input

reinstalling your sound card driver should work...
