Hello Alex,
Are you sure none of the other devices are disabled? Make sure all devices are shown, and that the rear audio is set to default.
Wonder if that will do the trick.

Hi there, I got similar Problems and do not know what to do. But firstly all you need to know about my system:
Acer Aspire One 150X Laptop (But I upgradet to Windows 7 Professional 32Bit)
1 GB RAM
Onboard Graphics (intel)
Onboard Sound (Realtek)
I bought a Logitech USB Microphone which works fine with all other computers in my household, except my nebtook. Logitech says, that there is no need for a driver, because it is a plug and play USB device. All other Win 7 distribution I own (4 of them), work perfectly fine (2 Laptops, 2 Pcs). When I plug it into my AA1 it says: Device is being installed/ No driver found. Having a look at System/ Sound tellf me, that the device is not found at all.
Logitech says, that it is a Microsoft problem that has to do with onboard sound chips, microsoft says it is a soundcard problem and realtek says it is a microsoft problem.
I tried everything even reinstalling usb drivers from the microsoft website. The micro even works with my ps3 system without doing anyithing at all.
Does someone have any idea? These are the tings I tried:
- restart the computer with plugged in device
- try all usb ports
- reinstall usb drivers
- searching drivers in the internet (which do not exist due to copyright reasons, says Logitech)
- tryed a usb- micro from another company (which did not work either)
I would be glad for help. Thanks in advance.
Best,
Michael

How do i set the rear audio to default? that sounds like my problem as it is saying the microphone is plugged into the front jack, but i don't have a front jack.
The speakers work and it says they are plugged into the back jack.
Thanks Alex.
It is only showing one microphone and it is saying it is plugged into the front jack, i need it to know it is plugged into the back jack.
How do i make it so that w7 knows my microphone is plugged into the rear jack and not the non-existent front jack?
Thanks.
I once had the same problem but with windows xp. The trick is to configure your device.
Do you have a realtek sound card onboard device or a sound card?
Usually there is a software with which you can configure your device.
I had the same problem and I could just tell my sound card that there is no front jack. You can even switch microphone and audio jacks if you like to.
Seems to be a quite common problem (realtek send me an email that it happens quite frequently that jacks are wrongly configured)
my mic worked fine in xp, and when i changed over to win7 it stopped working - control panel says it is not plugged in, and it is.
neither front nor rear jacks have a response.
mic works fine on my laptop.
realtek built in soundcard and updated all drivers from new release Jan 2010.
