    EMU 0202 Crackling and Popping

I recently noticed that whenever I'm playing audio through my EMU 0202 and I do anything that changes the CPU load (ex. moving the window around, or dragging the window to fullscreen, browsing the internet etc). This has not been an issue in the past, I just noticed it the other day.

Anyone else running an EMU on windows 7?

Well I figured out something very strange just now...

The popping/crackling is only present if I'm using the Windows 7 Basic Theme. If I use the Aero Windows 7 theme there is no crackling! Anyone have any more info on this...

    This is only a guess.

Have you adjusted the "processor state" to 100% for both minimum and maximum settings? There are reports of crackling if the minimum processor state is below a certain percentage.

The setting is here: Control Panel/Power Options/Change Plan Settings, then advanced plan settings.

The logic is that running Aero causes the minimum processor state to run at a higher level.

I wish I had crackling and popping, I can't get the 0202 to show at all---Windows doesn't seem to find a default driver for it (I just need the output so I figured the standard USB audio would do but no) and the one from E-MU: Downloads installs some various crap but the device still has no driver after reboot.

Even tried extracting that and pointing windows at the .inf through the device manager.

How do you get this to show up to the point where it's crackling?

I just ran the installer package, and everything showed up fine.

No idea what could be wrong.

finally, thank god i found the solution, listen up

basically the problem is, the input recording volume is too loud..You may have noticed that you had to turn down the L and R mike mixer knobs because the recording was now clipping (whereas in vista the levels where fine)

so basically turn them back to where they were (say around 2 o'clock, the higher the better), and then goto control panel>sounds>manage audio devices

now click the recording tab and you should see your emu0202 microphone

right click and then choose properties..Now click the levels tab

Now reduce that slider all the way down to 1%

    Hit OK

Now when you record, the quality should be sweet as hell! I can't hear a single crackle or pop!
