This is how I fixed that issue.

I have had the same issue. Reinstalled latest drivers PCI-8738-091211-7.12.8.1740(W7-RC-01). All the setting looked correctly set on 5.1, played around with it getting frustrated at only hearing it play back in stereo.

To get 5.1 I made sure Xear was set on 2 channel in System Input and 6 speaker in Analog Output.
This got my WMP to playback mp3's in 5.1.
hope that works for you :)

I found that if I choose 5.1 in Speaker setup it only plays front speakers and sound poor.

    hi guys!

    i need your help!

I have a CMI 8738 sound card. I have used it under XP, but now i bougth a new PC with original windows 7 home premium. My problem is that i didnt find any working driver for that soundcard.

I used million types of this file: PCI-8738-091211-7.12.8.1740(Windows 7-RC-01) but it still doesnt work... does anyone have the same problem with it?

I cant download any driver from here, couse they need an account, but i cant register..
    C-Media Electronics, Inc.

I have downloaded several type of that file, but its still not working.. If i use the standard soundcard, it work fine, but if I change to CMI 8738 than it stops playing sound...

    I hope you understand me..

plstkmn, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Not sure what games C-Media is up to with having to register to download the reference drivers but you can find the latest Windows 7 driver for that audio chip here,

    Cmedia drivers

just scroll down to the CMI8738 section and try the 8.17.40 one.

Assuming the C-Media software installed with the drivers (been a long time since I used a C-media based card, but it used to with the reference C-Media drivers) you should have a control panel that looks something like this,

if so, play around in it with the settings to see if you can get 5.1 working.

HY, can you tell me the link for this driver, because I don`t find it and my pci is 5.1 and it dosen`t work on win7 x64, not even 8.17.40 version.I`m waiting your replay.thx

Uninstall anything from control panel related to any drivers you've tried then remove that device from device manager and make sure to check the box to "delete the driver software". Then try installing this:

    http://www.cmedia.com.tw/Upload/Download/Driver/PCI-8738-091211-7.12.8.1740(W7-RC-01).zip

It has all the port assignments in the inf file correctly setup for Windows 7.

HY, I have a bigger problem, I don`t see any jack, or may be I don`t understand very well, can you be more specific for me, where should I find that jack`s? Oh, and the link you specified here it dosen`t work :|, and my Xear 3d dosen`t look like stormy13 posted on the 1st page
