Why does iTunes make a noise upon opening?

Every time I open iTunes in Windows 7 Professional, I get an annoying beeping sound as it opens, and it does so twice. Even after I turn off sounds in Control Panel, I still get this sound. Any ideas why, or how to fix this?

Like the double beep sound when you connect a device?

Is your Ipod still connected when you start the software maybe?

No, it is not a double beep, just a single honk-type sound.
No, I don't sync my iPod or iPhone to this particular computer, so it has never been attached.

I'm having the exact same problem, except the honk sound is constant. Every few minutes.
    It's really annoying.

Found the answer in my situation

I figured out what was causing the noise. It only happens when I Switched Users, from my wife's name to mine, and then opened iTunes. For some reason, it was opening it under her User name at the same time. The constant beeping was caused by multiple error windows on her side, saying that only one User at a time can have iTunes opened. Why it opened it for both of us, I have no idea.

The solution is to not Switch User, but to Logoff under my wife's name, prior to my logging on (or vice versa). Hope this solves your issue, also.
