    Sound Randomly stops

Hi people. Having an annoying issue that's started occurring the last couple days.
As the title says my sound is dropping out at random times.
I've noticed it has occurred when my computer stops performing a task with sound.
It has stopped after playing a game, watching a movie and listening to youtube.
Once it stops it will not work again until I restart the computer.
Fixes I have tried so far include:
    A- re-installing sound drivers
B- trying to restart the windows audio service but it gets stuck on restarting
C- reinstall my graphics driver to reinstall amd HDMI audio drivers

Recent changes I have made to my computer include some cable management, and the installation of a new HDD.

Once the sound stops, I cannot start up a game; a can play movies in vlc player with no sound but have to kill the process in the task manager; itunes will not play a song. The audio was working with the new HDD.

I have attached two dxdiag files one before the sound drops out and one after.

Thank you all for your help, Steven

Hello stilli mate where did you get the drivers from?? if you just used the Windows feature then you need to go to the Giga site and get them from there. http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3438#dl

    Before that run these

Hmm Steven mate it could be the board too mate if the Realtek driver from Giga doesn't work I might be inclined to stick a sound card in. I use the Asus Xonar DG that will drive up to a 7:1 system and I run a 5:1 Logitec Z506 off mine and the sound quality is superb and I am a bit of an audiophile.
The GUI for the card is great for mixing and effects and best part is it is cheap - $29 out here and worth every cent. Plus it cuts out the need for the onboard sound!

i'm using a razor megalodon which i believe uses it's own drivers. but it happens with my regular speakers as well. I do however have a new board which i will attempt to install when i get my cpu and ram. i'll see how it goes. I formatted my hdd today so i'll find out if it's that.

Yes Steven it (Razer) may use its drivers but the sound source (Realtek) will have its own hence why it is affecting both.

So why I suggested the Asus because it will cut out the on board sound source:)

so it seems it was my hdd. which is only a few weeks old hopefully it was some type of glitch or corrupted files or something from doing a large amount of copying to it. I wiped the drive and copied everything back from my backup drive and haven't had a problem yet. thx for your help guys.

Hi bud, I am experiencing the same issue here. Sound stops randomly in xonar stx. It only works after a restart. Was our issue fixed or did it come back? I was using Win 7, wiped that out and installed Win 8.1, still have the same issues. Installed uni xonar drivers, no change. I do not see how wiping the HDD completely fixed the issue. Did that really fix it? Should I try that too?
