Windows 7: Realtek ALC883 - recording issue

Realtek ALC883 - recording issue

Hey all,

Relatively a newbie with Win 7, much preferring from Vista though, but I have an odd problem, I did do a search and see a few people had the same issue, but not quite the same as my issue. I have an Asus P5K-PRO board with onboard sound (Realtek ALC883). I have installed the drivers from the Asus site, mainly because of the fact I couldn't hear anything coming through the line in socket.

My issue is that when I record via the line-in socket, it would record as mono. Oddly, this is present in Adobe Audition but not in Sony Soundforge (which does actually capture stereo channels). I'm putting a record deck in via a pre-amp into the line-in.

But then another issue. I run an online radio show, which I keep a backup of as the show streams. When I checked the stream backup yesterday that was in mono too!! I'm not sure if the show streamed in mono, no one mentioned it to be honest. When I say mono it's one channel only, not sure if it's left or right.

I will mention that when I'm listening through headphones I can hear everything in stereo, it's once it's been captured on the PC it becomes mono.

Am I missing a setting in Win 7 or could it be drivers? This is darn frustrating as I want to be able to use Audition and have stereo radio show stream backups!

Thanks in advance, hopefully someone has the answer.

Hyperjase :)

The Realtek drivers have an option that ties all inputs together, do you have Line-In (blue) set as the default recording device. I was thinking it might be possible for one program to see the input as a stereo input while another program picks it up a a mono mic in. Since the inputs are tied together it would still record.

You also might try downloading the latest drivers from the Realtek site.

Thanks for the info, I've tried the tie up input option but that seems to have made no difference. On Vista Audition worked straight out of the box, but in Win 7 it has this mono issue, I thought I'd found the option earlier but everything I try seems to make no difference. Just waiting for the latest drivers to download and then will give that a bash, fingers crossed that has the answer!

Cheers, will let you know if this solves the issue.

Windows 8.1 64 bit

Hi, I solved this problem myself. I made computer with stereo recording on win 8.1.
I saw an article that recording on Vista is stereo but win 8.1 is mono.

So, I installed vista again.
I copy-and-pasted files for vista to win 8.1
Safety mode is needed.
reboot is needed

Here are the files' name.

Good luck.
