Razer Tiamat 7.1 + Asus Xonar DX

Information for Razer Tiamat 7.1: Razer Tiamat 7.1 Gaming Headset - The World's First True 7.1 Gaming Headset - Razer Canada

Information for Asus Xonar DX: https://www.asus.com/Sound_Cards_and...ters/Xonar_DX/

Firstly, I want to make sure I plugged the 5 3.5mm jacks into the right slots. I have the green in headphone, pink in mic, black in front, grey in side, and orange in the center/sub ports of the Xonar DX.

Also, I'm getting a humming/buzzing noise with my Razer Tiamat. What kind of troubleshooting solutions could I try to resolve this?

That is not the correct hookup. Razer has a video on their web site that shows you how to hook it up and also how to configure the PC for 7.1 sound.

Follow the instructions in their setup guide.

If I followed that set up. Would I not be using my soundcard then? Since it looks like he's plugging it into the motherboard onboard.

The demo is for those with a built in sound card. If you have a separate sound card, you plug into the separate sound card. It should have the same (and maybe more) jacks.

Also, if you are using a separate sound card, make sure the integrated (on the motherboard) is disabled in the BIOS otherwise there can be conflicts. (You can only have one default sound playback device).

That's what I meant for my original post. Currently, I have it plugged into my separate sound card and want to make sure I have the correct color match up. There's no color coding on the Xonar DX that I see besides the green/pink.

The ASUS manual shows what jack is what connection for a 7.1 sound system. Use that as the guide to hooking up the headset.

The problem is that their 7.1 speaker setup only marks 4 out of the 5 3.5mm jacks. In the 7.1 diagram I have 3 for my stereo jack, 4 is my mic. That leaves #1 and #2 and the slot above 1 which is unmarked. The black 3.5mm jack on the Tiamat says rear which is taken by #4 as it's the mic slot.

Do you see what I mean?

You read it wrong from the manual. The top unmarked jack here,

is the mic jack. Need to match the headset plugs with how it is shown above.

As mentioned, plug it into onboard to eliminate the Asus or headset. Just keep plugging in jacks until you get a noise.

    Then setup the Sonar.
