No, the windows media player effects are software based so it will pretty much be the same no matter the audio device being used.

The three enhancements that would use CPU are:
SRS Wow effects, Play Speed Settings and Graphic Equalizer.

Guess it depends on what you want to do with audio?

To have headaches. I joke but it produces better sound for some who are more audio savy (I noticed my audio sound worse with onboard but not so bad). I switched to my on-board because my sound-blaster was a piece of crap and would not mute if I plugged in headphones but thats another thing.

For video games it might help offload cpu usage that could be otherwise used for intense processes and or by video editing, encoding. Besides the occasional pop crack in my audio it is alright.

High CPU Usage by image name "System" (PID 4) when playing audio
Whenever I play any audio, I get a sharp spike in CPU usage - one core jumps to > 75% and the other remains around 20%, and the image that's causing the spike in usage is "System". I checked for viruses and malware using SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes, a few things found but none that were...

Every 10-40 minutes, the application I'm currently working in becomes unresponsive, and after a minute or two, the window turns white, notifying me that it's not responding. This unresponsiveness quickly spreads to other open processes, rendering them frozen as well. I can still use the mouse, and...

CPU usage randomly spikes to 100% and horrific audio distortion.
Hey all. I apologise if this is in the wrong section - I did look through each of the categories and deemed this one to be most appropriate. The problem: I've had my custom built PC for roughly a year now. Everything was working swimmingly until about August this year. After about an hour...

... a USB 2.0 EHCI host controller What was happening was I was getting CPU usage spikes on a single CPU core. Every 40 seconds or so it would spike to 100% on my 4th CPU core (using xperf I could see this was only about 4 to 6 tenths of a second from start to finish, but still not right). I...

Unknown CPU Usage Causing Stuttering Audio
Hey there. So I've been having this problem where my CPU is constantly hovering at around 30% usage, and after investigating with ProcessExplorer and Task Manager, I've found that the process responsible for most of it is the "System" process in \system32 (the description says "NT Kernel &...
