Is your microphone with a headset or is it a standalone mic? Do you use PTT in vent or is it level enabled? I had a similiar problem when I had a standalone microphone and it was picking up my case fan noise. I had it mounted to the side of my case. I simply moved it and all was good. Made my clanmates happy. It can pick up a ceiling fan also. That was another problem. It was a sensitive mic. I ended up switching to a headset mic to remedy any noise issues.

I've just installed Steam and when I use the microphone test within that it sounds entirely fine. Although I still get the distortion when I relay my microphone to be heard through speakers/headset or when I'm using ventrilo

***think i am actually getting the interference on steam, its just that its low quality and cant really hear it as much ****

Well, the only thing it can be is a ground problem somehow. If there is anything grounded it could cause buzz like that the problem is how to find it. Look at any wiring in the case and make sure none are pinched and that the outer shield is intact(no bare wire). I would concentrate looking anything plugged into the molex plugs. They tend to ground easy after repeated use. Start with case fans. If you see a change in intensity in the buzz it's a ground for sure. If it goes away you found your culprit. One more thing you could do is to plug your pc into an UPS. You may have unstable(dirty) AC power that could cause it.

Same issue althought a couple years later.

Hello, although this post was made a couple of years ago I felt the need to ask if the issue has been resolved. If this is the case would you mind sharing the solution to this problem? Lately I've been having the same issue with my sennheiser 333d when using skype. My friends say that my microphone is producing some kind of static noise. The only way for me to fix this temporarily is by moving the microphone up and down a couple of times although this doesn't immediately fix the issue.
I don't exactly know if it is the microphone creating the issue so today I'm gonna try another mic and look if this one has the same issue.

    Thanks in advance!

(sorry if some sentences aren't correct I'm writing this on my phone)
