    Tha Fix

    hello everyone with this problem.

I know this is a Win 7 forum and I use Windows 8...
but if you search for windows 8 problems u'll end up here.

atm. the newest realtek driver is 2.70,
me myself use a 4.2 (5.1 with one speaker replaced with a subwoofer)

and when i installed the realtek drivers i still had stereo sound....
i went exploring and the solution:

its very simple open your Realtek HD Audio Manager > Speakers
then in the sub-tabs go to Sound Effects.

here you can choose an envoirement choose the most basic one "Room"

and there you go 5.1 sound :)

if you ever find this topic and you need some more help email me halo.aline@hotmail.nl

I'm getting 5.1 (without center speaker; more on that in a minute) on my Logitech speakers using None in Environment so there must have been somethin g else going on with your system.

I have my center speaker disconnected because it responds both to output from the sub as well as the one for center and I can't the two separated. The problem is probably in the speakers since I had the same problem with my old XP system, but, then again, the old system also used Realtek.

Did all that. I'm almost certain the problem is with the speaker system.

Lady Fitzgerald, not sure if you tried this yet. I have a Logitech speaker setup and I tried all kinds of setup and driver things. Then low and behold I discovered my satellite speaker, the one with a headphone jack and power button has a tiny switch selector on the back of the speaker. I moved it and all of the sudden had surround sound.Hope that's a possible solution for you.

I don't know the model # of my 5.1 Logitech speakers (other than they are several years old and I have no desire to crawl under my desk to check the back of the amplifier/sub woofer enclosure; old age sucks) but none of the satellites have any switches on them. All the controls and the headphone jack are on a wired module that sets on my desk. The front and rear, left and right speakers work just fine. The problem is both the center speaker and the sub are getting the same feed. When I test the speaker connection in the Realtek driver, testing the center speaker feeds both the center speker and the sub. The same happens when testing the sub. I can't control the volume to the center speaker independently of the sub.
