Headphones issue

Why are my headphones displayed as speakers? Headphones are working just perfect but why does windows 7 detect it as speakers (default device) ? It looks like this:

How do i solve this issue ?

It looks to me like you have your headphone jack plugged into the wrong 3.5mm jack in your sound card. They are usually color coded.

Lime Green - Line Out, Front Speakers, Headphones
Pink - Microphone
Light Blue - Stereo Line In (Unpowered Mic)
Orange - Subwoofer, Center out
Black - Rear Speakers (5.1/7.1)
Gray - Middle Speakers (7.1)
Gold - Midi / Gameport (Joystick)

Otherwise you can go into your sound options and configure that device. But like I said, your sound properties look as if you have a headphone port, it could be on the front of your computer instead of the back. Either way, it doesn't really matter, as they will function however you want them to.

Another solution may be to update your drivers. Please fill out your system specs via UserCP.

Actually my headphones are plugged into a green socket. I tried plugging into the other jacks but it didn't work. The front audio jacks are not connected to the motherboard because i just don't use them. All the drivers are fully updated(directx, windows, video, audio). Could it be related to S/PDIF connection? A S/PDIF cable is still in graphics card package. Should i connect it ?

I don't believe it has anything to do with S/PDIF connections. How many and what color sockets do you have on your sound card?

It really shouldn't matter so much though, unless you're stuck using an inappropriate mode (5.1, etc) on your headphones.

Yeah, you should be using the green slot. It could be that your computer doesn't think that you're using headphones because you don't have a mic plugged in, I don't know. I wouldn't worry so much about it. BTW, Are you sure you have your latest drivers/software installed, those programs normally handle this type of stuff much better.

When you install Realtek's drivers you should have a program that handles all of the settings. It's basically window dressing for Window's sound settings but it can be helpful with the third party settings. It looks like this: Realtek Settings

I have just manually updated Realtek high definition audio driver from here:
Realtek

But windows still detects heaphones as speakers.
Now the sound menu looks like this:

As you can see there is no headphones displayed at all in the list after updating audio drivers even though "show disabled devices" and "show disconnected devices" are marked.
