No sound via HDMI on my TV

    Hi everyone,
I just bought a brand new Philips TV and wanted to watch my first movie from my Vaio VGN-Z11VRN, however I had only picture with no sound on the TV.

I connect using HDMI. Have so say that the TV is ok, since it is working with dvd just fine using the same cable. Also, I've been connecting my laptop many times with my previous tv with no problem at all.

In sound option, when I connect hdmi, the device selected is actually HDMI one...and I can see the equalizer moving.

Can't understand where the problem is. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate. All the drivers used are from sony official site.

I've seen on this forum that many users actually have problem tv sony and philips tvs, and one of them solved the issue by upgrading the nvidia drivers. However, I have the last drivers (from sony site) and the drivers on the nvidia site do not support sony laptops.

I've also updated to latest drivers of realtek with no result

Tried to used different HDMI ports of the tv, different players on the laptop (using variety of settings).... still nothing

I will really appreciate any help!!!

    Hi.

Try updating to the latest NVIDIA drivers, as I bet those from Sony won't be. See the link in my signature and if you have any problems report back.

Well I followed your advice... I've installed latest OEM drivers for windows 7 (197.44)...replaced the .inf file... rebooted... the Intel chipset showed that there is a problem.... updated the drivers...after rebooting... nvidia showed problem... actually the graphic card is not used..it says it stopped by windows...

I think I had this problem before when I was trying to avoid installing the sony drivers.... so at the end I ended up with the sony drivers.... which seem to be not as good as they should be...

Any idea how I should proceed from now on??

Why nvidia drivers affect the sound???

Because the HDMI is controlled by the graphics. Uninstall, ensuring to tick the little check box to remove the software, reboot, and try reinstalling.

Well.... I did everything like you said... still... nothing works...
To be more specific, both graphic cards (nvidia and intel) have no issues in the device manager, however the nvidia card is not used... (there is no nvidia panel)...

So had to reinstall back the sony drivers....really can't see why your drivers are not working... I would understand if the device manager would show an issue there...but since it does not show... why it does not work?!

Does your video card have a true HDMI port on it? Does the video card also have sound built-in or does it have access to the audio from the computer. Many computer HDMI ports do NOT pass the audio; you have to use a separate audio cable to get the sound.

Well I've done what you said. The result is the same.... Actually...after installing the nvidia drivers, there is no yellow sign next to the device in the device manager, however the pc is not using the device. Moreover, there is always a yellow sign next to intel graphic card and it needs to be updated. After all the updates.... the pc is still not using the nvidia card, even though in the device manager there are no issues!

So, I had to go back to sony drivers!

Really can't see why I can't use the drivers provided by you...
I'm sure you are aware that in the official site of nvidia they specifically say the sony vaio laptops should use sony drivers.

    Any ideas?

I am indeed, but in the three years of owning a Vaio, I've always used LTV2G to keep it up date, with the only issue being my S-Video connection, but the HDMI has always worked without fault.

If the HDMI works with your previous TV, then the problem lies with your current TV. In my Panasonic (42" LCD) there's an option under Audio, which source will it use when it's on HDMI, I choose "HDMI(Digital)", if I choose "Aux in (Analog)", I'd be playing PS3 silently...

Tv is fine, and the reason I'm saying that cause it has no issues with other devices connected via HDMI (e.g. dvd player).

I still can't manage to install nvidia drivers (without issues)... I've seen other forums... there are so many people having the same issue. Everyone conclude that it has to do with the sony drivers
