    no sound through hdmi connection

I have just upgraded from vista to windows 7 home premium.
On vista, I could watch downloaded programs and movies on my LCD TV through a hdmi lead. I just plugged it in and it worked, with the sound coming through the TV and the stereo speakers ( which are connected to the tv).

Now, I only get sound through the laptop, and not through the TV. I have tried a new hdmi cable, I have checked all the settings for sound and it says all are working fine. I have tried updating the drivers, which are all up to date. Nothing seems to work. I can put up with watching programs with the sound from the laptop, but I have found that even with the speakers on 100%, they are not as loud as when the OS was vista.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

On many PC's you have to set the HDMI as the "default playback" device in order to get audio in the HDMI output. I don't know if that is the case with yours but something to consider. The Sound Panel, where you would set this, is in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Sound. In my desktop the HDMI output is listed as the "ATI High Definition Audio Device".
