Cheers for the tip - for some reason I never actually though of going into the properties to select 5.1.

It worked a treat with the standard W7 drivers on my ALC889a sound chip.

I have the exact same problem with my integrated realtek hd. The 5.1 sounds works well in the test settings both in the windws sound settings and the realtek control panel but with any other playback just the left front seems to work. Any of you found a solution to this yet?

Yes I have tried playing real 5.1 files. But even though many of my other music file is not pure 5.1 sound it should still be able to play the sound thorugh out all speakers and use the subwoofer :/

    Hi!

I have the same sound card, and using SPDIF output on the Realtek ALC889A, I only get stereo in games and non DTS movies.

5.1 works fine in DTS DVD's etc, but the software I earlier used to enable DTS encoding on all streams, in Windows XP won't install on Windows 7.. So I'm stuck listening to stereo in games and music videos.

Anyone have any tips on how to get the Realtek software working in Windows 7 or know how I can enable the DTS encoding feature available in the XP / Vista software ?
