Dell Latitude D630 in docking station - no audio

    D630, Windows 7 x86 7100 RC1

I am not getting any sound out of my speakers that are connected to the docking station. All the sound comes out through the built in speakers. I check playback devices and "Speakers" is listed with nothing to configure.

    Anyone know any tricks?

Download and install the Vista (32/64 bit) drivers for you system from Dell's website. I chose not to install the application but only the driver and everything is working great.

Next week I am going to try to install Win 7 remotely on my dads computer (helping him via phone) wich is a Latitude D630. I loaded the lated bios in January before I send the computer to him. Is the intallation without issues or is there something I need to be in the look out for?

I would like to thank tmote and confirm that his suggested fix also worked for my Latitude D420 docking station for the same exact problem of no audio out of the jack on docking station after windows 7 release candidate install.

If you're running Win 7 32-bit, you need the Vista 32-bit version. Otherwise you need the 64-bit.

If it's not working do you have Winmagic SecureDoc on the laptop? I tried it on a D830 and the Vista drivers don't work when the SecureDoc bootloader is installed.

Audio: for me (Dell D630, running Win7x64 SP1), the Dell support site identified:

    SIGMATEL-Driver
    R171789.exe (7MB)
    4/12/2007
    5.10.0.5515, A11
    Applies to:
    STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio

After installation, it still did not work, I had to reboot, and it worked fine after that.

How to duplicate the audio ports

I want to use both the port that docking station has and the one on my laptop simultaneously so that i can connect to external speakers. Unfortunately I have only one port on the docking station and one on the Laptop. Can you tell me if it is possible to do that?

    Let me know.

FYI, I have latest BIOS and latest drivers installed.

    D830, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 T7500

My Dell docking station is Model PR01x (PA-10/PA-13), which is the driver I search for on the Dell site for my specific model. I found a Vista x64 driver that worked...It allowed the sound to pass from the docking station through the external speakers. The driver I downloaded extract in a folder name 2Y0VM. After running the setup executable, I rebooted and the problem was solved. GOOD LUCK! PS. a lot of the drivers work for several different Dell models...D830, D630, D620, etc.
