Microphone will not work after installation

Hey, I upgraded from Windows XP 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit about 5 months ago. Well, right after I upgraded my headset microphone and audio would not work. I just forgot about it because my gaming declined because of school. Well, now I have come back and I still can't get my mic to work.

And no, my microphone is not muted neither on my computer nor on the microphone itself.

My headset utilizes the traditional speaker and microphone jacks in the computer instead of USB. I use the front panel of my computer for this. I changed the front panel for both to the default sound and mic - got my headphones to work fine with this. Well, my microphone won't work however. The default Windows "Sound Recorder" will not recognize my mic nor will Ventrilo. If I use Vent, they can hear the sounds on my comp that I hear when I press my MIC option--so it is playing back my headset sounds to them (not sure how important this is). Anyway, my mic settings are:

    Default Playback Device
    Microphone 100, Microphone Boost 100

I'd appreciate any help, thanks a lot.

Have you tried re-installing the driver?

In your previous post you said....

    >Default Playback Device
    >Microphone 100, Microphone Boost 100

The Microphone is an input... so shouldn't you have the "Default Input" device set to Mic and the default playback device speaker or headphones?

    Ah, just let me clarify...

Under "Recording Devices", I select my Mic and go to Properties > Listen > "Playback Through This Device":

Here I can choose from Default Playback Device, Headphones, Digital Audio (S/PDIF)

The one selected was Default Playback Device. I tried setting the Playback Device to Headphones but that didn't seem to help anything so I switched it back (before I posted on these forums); should I go back to headphones? I'll do that. Still doesn't work, however.
