    Auto audio silencer

I couldn't search this because i wouldn't know what to search, but im currently designing a car pc and i want to put windows 7 on it, but i want to have music that is playing and when the gps chimes in i want it to temporarily lower the volume from the music and raise the volume of the gps, is there any program that anyone has heard of that can do that?

It's like the communication tab under audio, but not just for calls.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi P8ntBal1551,

Windows 7 offers the ability to reduce the sound when calls are made from a phone connected to it. I'm going to look at this further for you; no promises that it's your solution but I'll let you know what i find.

Ok, so it appears to work whether not it's a phone call.
e.g. I have win7 64bit, I played a song with WMP, then spoke in my microphone and the song volume dropped right down. If you can connect the GPS sound output to a windows 7 audio input (recording) device then this may work for you. At least it does for me as shown in the test above.

    Good Luck!

Thanks for the help, and i will definatly take this into consideration, but im going to get a gps application, and i was wondering if there was an application that gave it priority over music

    thank you.

edit - i want to give exclusive audio control to my gps program, without rewriting the audio stack in it

If the Win 7 box is 'always on' you can push the GPS sound through it, giving GPS priority as I mentioned above. If it's not always on, then I'm not sure mate.

    But good luck. :)

I'm going to make this even more difficult! When I used XP I ran a program called Wonderful Icon. Ctrl-D decreased volume, Ctrl-I increased volume, and Ctrl-M toggled from normal level to mute and back. My speaker controls make the obvious solution difficult. Is there anything like this for 64-bit Win7 Home Premium - on the keyboard?

Agreed, also look at the software packaged with your sound-card and see if it has this functionality.
