"Windows Audio Endpoint Builder" service will not start

The audio services worked fine at first. But after optimizing the system for gaming and security, the "Windows Audio Endpoint Builder" service fails to start. It gives the error: "Error 1722: The RPC server is unavailable" This is required for the "Windows Audio" service, so I have no sound now. Does anyone know the cause of this error? Here are the services that I am running...

    Application Experience: Manual
    Application Information: Manual
    DCOM Server Process Launcher: Automatic*
    Group Policy Client: Automatic* Grrrrr
    Human Interface Device Access: Manual
    Plug and Play: Automatic
    Program Compatibility Assistant Service: Automatic
    RPC: Automatic*
    RPC Locator: Manual
    RPC Endpoint Mapper: Automatic
    Task Scheduler: Automatic* Grrrrr
    Themes: Automatic
    User Profile Service: Automatic
    Windows Audio: Automatic (not working)
Windows Audio Endpoint Builder: Automatic (not working)
Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework: Manual
    Windows Installer: Manual
Windows Management Instrumentation: Manual (On for nVidia nTune)

Should I be running any additional services? I skipped Vista and am still using XP. And although I know the bare minimum services for safe internet use, I am not interested in doing so. I just want to benchmark some games :P Thanks in advance!

I'm having exactly the same issue. It must be an undocumented dependency.

Don't mess with services, doing so can cause such weird issues as this. The service tweak sites that list all these "recommended" service configurations all fail to tell you how little resources are saved in truth, and how many unexpected errors you may receive. We tested this extensively years back and it's just not worth it...

Now, this is a Windows 7 forum and not many (if any) users here are still running XP even as a dual boot, but we can still help you out. Maybe you might wanna try loading a W7 copy in a dual boot and give 7 a whirl, you just might LOVE it...

Set your services back to their Default state, that may solve your issue.

I've got the same problem. The thing is I never even messed with services in this OS - and all was ok until todays updates after which sound just stopped. And then - look the first guy's post.

    POWER fixed it

Concur with the guy that said he turned back on the "Power" service and it started working.

I had set that to manual last night and after rebooting my most of the audio services would fail to start. I started the "Power" service and then my audio services would start and I have sound again. Set "Power" to automatic and rebooted and it's still working.

So thank you very much sir!

agree with the two guys above. I ran into the same problem tweaking which service to run or not. When I re-enabled Power (after trying a ton of ways to renable it with other services), my audio, mic, etc came back on.

Saw BerggreenDK's fix, and it worked for me.... Remember to LEAVE POWER ON :)

    Audio not working

    Fix:

You probably disabled or stopped Power service ,set it to automatic and start it, if it doesnt start on first time try it to start again or put it on Automatic and restart PC.

Then your Audio services will work (start them) and whoola music is playin again.

ps: I tried restore point and set it to two days ago, but it did not fix problem,

Turning on power service worked for me

I've been searching for a solution too. I had disabled quite a few services myself and was starting to re-enable them again.

When I came to the POWER-service (C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe -k DcomLaunch) and re-enabled that one, suddently my onboard RealTek ACL888 turned on and enabled the ports as expected.

And all my chat/sound programs suddently was able to use them.... wooohoo!
    Im in your debt BerggreenDK,
For almost 3 weeks now, ive been having problems with various windows services. I had tried everything I knew to try to get the audio service on and nothing worked until I tried your suggestion.
Sound came back on straight away, still got a few more issues but at least I can some tunes on while I try and fix them.

    Thanks again
