Intermittent sound problems x64

hi all,

I built a pc for someone and they are experiencing sound problems, the problem I have it that it doesnt act up on me. So here are the symptoms. While listening to something the sound will start breaking up and then completely stop. After reboot it works fine. I just want a proper solution (not a dodgy uncle solution) to get this monkey off my back. What we are going to try is:

update the sound and directX drivers (a given)
should that not work I will try a pci or usb sound card

I was just wondering given these symptoms and this config, does anyone have a silver bullet solution? the setup is as follows
windows 7 x64
JW-A780LM-D2 motherboard
4gb of ram and an AMD x2
Realtek ALC662 intergraded sound card

thanks!

I have the same Realtek audio on my Gigabyte mainboard.

Latest Realtek audio driver is 2.49.

Here's a couple you may have missed.
Definitely update the motherboard BIOS to the latest.
Make sure the Network Adapter is updated to the latest drivers, if not from Microsoft, the manufacturer's website. (I'm using the latest realtek NW drivers from Microsoft).

If the machine has wireless... same deal, check on updated the drivers.

In the BIOS, disable all legacy ports not being used, (ie: serial & parallel)

A great tool is the DPC latency checker, simple install no "extra" files, no writing to the registry. Will help you pinpoint if it's a driver issue.
