System sounds are not loud enough
My System Sounds are not loud enough and certainly noy as loud as in any previous Microsoft OS. Can this be "fixed?"

I have a laptop and don't know how to tell you which sound card I have. I have 4 GB ram and there is a driver in Device Manage (it says "High Definition Audio Device (by Microsoft)" and another says " IDT High Definition Audio CODEC". The sound level from other sources seems acceptable (normal). It's just the System Sounds that are not loud enough (not nearly as loud as all my other past PCs and not as loud as the other sources on this laptop. I've tried all the possible settings (I think) and they're still not very loud. I've Googled this issue and it seems a lot of people have similar problems (but not the same) with Windows 7. My installation was from scratch on a new drive (the OS did not come from a Recovery Partition and it wasn't an upgrade). If you need any more information, just ask. I have no way of knowing what you need or if you're aware of this issue on other PCs. Thanks.
Windows 7 seems to be a little on the quiet side. You can look through your taskbar next to the clock and see if you have an audio program that has an equalizer. If you do, then move the sliders for each level up a notch and that should make it louder.
Do You mean I would have to have this app running in the background all the time? Also, can you suggest an app that doesn't take much resources?
I haven't tried with mine. Mine was quiet, but had two different audio programs....
the regular Sound icon (which has hardly anything)
One for Realtek audio which has stuff like input selection etc.
And one for the Asus laptop-specific program which had an equalizer tab
Usually OEM's put lots of bloatware on the comp and it doesn't do much good. You might have the three above: your regular Volume Icon, a Realtek Audio Icon, and another sound program similar to it specific for HP Pavilions.
What is your HP Pavilion? I looked for "HP Pavilion KQ574AV", but Im not finding much for KQ574AV
Looks like it. I think you might have hit on something: What app plays the System Sounds and what app plays everything else? How can I find out. It seems like the app that plays the System Sounds is different - and has the volume turned down.
Did you ever get an answer to this or figure it out? I have the same issue with a new install of win 7 on a desktop and it is driving me crazy. All sound is fine except the windows system sounds that are so low I can barely hear them when no other sounds are playing and can't hear them at all when anything else is playing.
Open up your sound controls (right click on the sound icon in the system tray (bottom right of the screen)). Open the Volume Mixer. One of the volume controls is for the System Sounds and is probably set too low.
