Hello Hopalong

And thank you for your speedy reply.

I followed the steps that you outlined and loaded the soundMax driver in win7 folder with the softwares that

was preinstalled. After windows restarted I got this message

"tHE SOUNDmAX AUDIO DRIVER DID NOT LOAD..Reinstall...". When that didn't work

I uninstall the softwares and repeated the steps and installed the Driver before I installed the softwareS.

I also loaded the latest update "ASUSUpdt-V71601_XPVistaWin7", and installed latest

Intel_Chipset_V9111019_XPVistaWin7 that I downloaded from ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards -

ASUS Maximus II Formula.

After all that the problem still remain, I am CLUELESS!

Hi there
sometimes the problem isn't in the software but in the hardware.

Have you got a setting either via a "jumper" lead or in the BIOS setup that you can DISABLE the audio from the video card.

On the main board as well there is a switch (either jumpers or in the BIOS) that enables you to select HD audio or AC97.

Ensure you've got the correct one.

If your mobo has a built in video chip you could try using that and just remove the other video card. If you don't want to do that ensure the MOBO's video is disabled.

Cheers
jimbo

This is what I would do and did before but is your decision to try or not. I would have suggested this yesterday but didn't have this picture of your Device Manager at that time.

Delete all the yellow marked items under the "Sound, video and game controller."
Right click each yellow item one by one then click delete.
Then reinstall the SoundMax driver.

There is no yellow exclamation marks at all. The sound card is not showing up. Says no device installed.

You can try the ASUS forums if you haven't already.

Contact ASUS support. Maybe you will get some help.

Good luck.

In the start menu search box type find and fix
You will see 8 items listed at the top.
First try the Find and fix problems with devices. It is a repair wizard of sorts.
If no help then try this one.
Find and fix audio playback.

If possilbe check to see if you have audio in speakers front and rear panel and/or earphone jacks on front or rear.

I haven't forgot just looking for new ideas.

Also check to see if the audio is enabled in the Bios.
The HDA controller in picture.
It will be similar to my picture. It should show in your owners manual also.
If this is disabled you will never have sound.
