Windows 7 Not Recognising Headphones Separately after reboot

Hello i have build a new pc about 2 months ago and i have a problem with my Audio Codecs so i have asked on a different forum and i will just Write the entire thread here so then later you don't ask the same questions. Please i really need help with this.

Hello so i have a problem since i have build my pc, So the Problem is that when i install the audio drivers for my pc which are included with the mobo and after i install them i have to restart my pc so i did that and the drivers were working fine my headphones were read as headphones and my speakers were read as spealers that was brilliant but now i restarted my pc again and my Pc reads my headphones as my speakers and thats really annoying as i use my headphones to talk with my friends on skype and speakers for games and i can't do that now because the headphones are read only as a Speaker so any one know what the problem might be? i have reinstalled the drivers twice now and the same thing happens after second restart...

Go to the ASUS download page for your motherboard and download the latest audio drivers. The ones on your supplied disk are likely older.

I did that yesterday same thing when restart pc they reset

In the GUI for the driver, can you right click on the output and select headphones?

Which ports are you using for the headphone and speaker outputs? Are the headphones plugged into the front panel, or the rear?

Well in the GUI i can select headphones but when i restart my pc i.e Shut down and tunr on next day it dissapears and i have to re install the drivers and Also my Headphones and mic are connected to my front panel and the speakers are connect to at the back

What happens if you simply unplug the headphones and replug them in? The driver should port detect..

if i do that After installing the Drivers it works fine the port detects.but then when i restart my pc the asus audio manager does not detect anything just puts the sound straight to headphones.

Seems strange, if it detects once and then fails to detect subsequently. In control panel>sound options, after reBOOT, what other sound devices do you have listed?

After reboot Just Speakers and when i plug in headphones that changes to headphones and when i reninstall codecs there are 2 seperate ones for headphones and speakers and thats what i want to skype on heaphones and bf3 on spekaers.

Just throwing this out there - could be the codec packs causing a problem?

You should be able to right click on the headphones in control panel sound options and set them as default communications device while the speakers are the default output device. You can also set Skype options to output to the headphones.

Anything more than that it's difficult to say - something about how your system sets itself up after the reBOOT is the issue.

Hey Not sure if its the Codecs as i tried Installing realtek aswell but will try more and also in skype after reboot there is also just one outpu so i have to reinstall to see the second one in skype aswell so i dont know what the problem is but i will try downloading 2 more codecs and se if the problem stays.

Hmm, maybe leave the codecs out of the picture for now and see if that helps. Other than that, I can't really think of why the headphone/speaker device goes missing from sound options and jac detection stops working. Might want to RMA the board.

And That's the convo we had and then it ended at RMA the board but i dont want to do that because it will take long sending the board off so i thought this forum would be a good resolution.

When you connected the front panel headphone/mic jacks to the motherboard did you use the "HD Audio" connection or the "AC 97" connection? If you didn't use the HD Audio, give that a try. The HD Audio has sensing capabilites that the AC 97 does not have.

BTW, the light green is very hard to read.

Check to see if the HD Audio is connected. You don't have to reinstall drivers.

The drivers from ASUS, since you have an ASUS motherboard, is the preferred drivers. Drivers direct from RealTek may or may not work and are generic. RealTek even has a notice (at least on the US site) to obtain drivers from your PC or motherboard vendor, as applicable.

    ASUS - P8H61

Install (reinstall) the Intel motherboard chipset drivers, from ASUS and see if that helps. If the chipset drivers were corrupted it could cause the problem you are having. One of the prime things the chipset drivers do is indentify all the devices on or attached to the motherboard.

How about the Sound Panel/Playback section? Does it show up there?

I'm at a loss. It shows up OK then after reboot it doesn't. I don't know if its a hardware problem or some other Windows issue. Sorry
