I guess it is because by the time MBAM or SAS has found something, it might be too late.

I rather suggest using other "layers" instead of a second real-time anti-virus.

I think i hv many layered protetion like...... Real time..Avast 5.0 free, On demand..... MBAM, SAS..... Spywareblaster to immune my system..... Winpatrol plus.... I use browser Firefox with add on like No script, Request policy, better privecy...... Windows firewall. Is not it sufficient????

Hi, gautam7.

I agree. You have good layered protection. Couple that with safe surfing, Microsoft and third-party software updates and you should do just fine.

Thanks everyone, since I have layers already, believe I'll leave well enough alone. Although I may try it if/when my pro version of Emsisoft expires (I've managed to extend it several years with giveaways so far ). A Guy

Anyone tried Avast Free v5.1.xxx + MSE 2 ?

I hope no one minds me resurrecting an old thread, but I followed this thread when it was new and I installed MSE with my already running Avast, and they had no problem together.

Now I recently installed a new SSD and did a clean install and put Avast back on, but never got around to reinstalling MSE.

Has anyone tried the new MSE 2 with Avast Free v5.1.xxx ?

I'm curious about the people running 2 AV's at the same time. Do you guys frequently find that you have problems on your computer that sometimes the 1 software catches and other times the other one catches?

I understand the layered security approach. I use MSE, with an occassional MBAM scan (once a week or once every 2 weeks), and I use SpywareBlaster (although I'm not sure if that has really done much). I also use Sandboxie quite a bit when I'm screwing around with something that seems a little more questionable. I'll be honest, in the past 2 years at home...I don't recall a single instance where I have had my AV find anything, and my MBAM usually only finds tracking cookies and the like from time to time.

I often wonder about those with multiple apps and regimented scanning routines. Are they simply being overly cautious or obsessive compulsive and addicted to hunting for potential problems....or do they find that their tools and such are going off left and right and stopping all sorts of bad stuff from coming in?

Do my surfing habits prevent me from experiencing these problems, or are my tools just all damaged and malfunctioning and not finding issues on my boxes? I feel it's more the first part...as I'm an IT guy for a living and use lots of computers, and understand the signs and symptoms of an infected computer and my boxes usually just hum away with very few issues.
