    folder permissions

    Hi,

I'm not sure that this is the right discussion but if it isn't please tell me.

I just got my new laptop with windows 7 home premium installed and I'm having a tough time accessing certain folders and features. I set up my login name with administrative permissions but I still cant get into certain folders. In particular the "Documents and Settings" folder. I have checked the permissions of this folder and see that administrators have 'full control' of this folder but trying to access it brings up the "access is denied" popup. I am at a lose as to how to proceed. I had one rare thought and that was that perhaps one has to upgrade to windows 7 professional in order to access these folders but that couldn't possibly be. Right?

So, my question is this; does anyone have any ideas of where to start to unravel the solution?

    thanks for reading,

    Richard,

Thank you for the reply! I found that firefox and other apps in fact do keep some or all of thier data in the <username\app data\local> however they also use <local low> and <roaming> folders found in the same place. I guess that I am used to XP and administrator rights being supreme. I appreciate all the info on juncture points. Looks like I have some homework to do.

    Thanks,

I missed windows vista (on purpose) so I guess that a lot of win 7 was started there. So I'll use tutorials for all they are worth! I have the time and I have an incentive. Thanks Richard!
