I've never tried out MSE, but I have tried Norton and Avast. Let's just put it this way: Norton found (and fixed) 80 infections on my computer. Avast found one. Malware Bytes Anti-Malware found 48.

You need to change your browsing habits, regardless of which resident antivirus product you chose.

I use NIS2011. No problems at all.

Wow! In other words, if MSE found a virus and cleaned it (or at least claimed to), you wouldnt trust and reinstall/ reimage anyways? Doesnt seem any point to using an AV.
The point to using the AV is to be told that something did happen. Otherwise, you might not know and keep right on imaging not realizing that your box was compromised.

On my own personal boxes, If I knowingly got hit with something, I would pretty much wipe the box and start from scratch myself. Especially since I have images and "from scratch" really isn't that long ago.

For people's machines I work on, I usually clean 'em best I can and let them carry on. Most of them are absolutely terrified of reinstalling and starting from scratch as they often don't backup, they don't know where anything is, and they don't have images.

I didn't like how a Dell update went last week, so I went ahead and did a re-image. I make 2 images per month, and since I don't install a lot of programs or work from my personal machine, I don't lose much in 2 - 4 weeks. I certainly didn't need to do this, but I now know my machine is back to it's known by me, correct state.................I would do the same if I got infected without a doubt.

Firstly, that's a wrong comparison asked for. A stand alone Antivirus vs an entire Security suite!! Should've been AV / AV OR IS / IS, right?

Anyway, I would choose Norton for paid use and Avast for Free use. You can also go for MSE (Not my first choice, though.) For complete Internet Security, I'd suggest Bitdefender IS 2011/12, Norton IS 2011 and F-Secure IS 2011. For Free use, try Comodo Internet Security OR Outpost Security Suite 7.1 Free (AV powered by Virus Buster).

I would go with Kaspersky. I use it and don't have many problems with it.

Hello, which is better? Norton Internet Security 2011 or Avast! free 5.0? Which one will slow down my computer more, or has higher detection rates?
