    Possible MSE Issue

    Hello everyone,

I might be having an issue with MSE on my system and would like some input if someone would be kind enough to respond.

Initially it was acting normally and I would have the MSE icon in the hidden icon section of my taskbar after startup. Now it no longer shows up there. I found this thread:

MSE not showing up in taskbar

and dragged the shortcut into my startup folder but that didn't work. Additionally, MSE doesn't show up in my task manager processes list until I manually open it then close it. After that it is back in my hidden icons balloon.

I'm sure I did something stupid because as best as I can figure, this started out when I was trying out Spybot search and destroy while I had MSE going. I have since uninstalled Spybot and reinstalled MSE but still have the same issue.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Dave

OK, I just now tried it (twice to be sure) and it didn't work. I also tried dragging the shortcut into the startup folder again and no luck there, either.

Thanks for trying to help, Antharr.

I ended up reinstalling a good system image.

Here is the way I did it. Control panel/Windows Defender/ right click/ shortcut to desktop and then drag and drop on Start button. Drag and drop desktop shortcut to recycle bin.

    hi !

i have a solution to the missing MSE taskbar-icon:
i first tried the MSE-Icon fix:
    Code:
    regsvr32 "E:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client\shellext.dll"
    but it didnīt work.

then i clicked on my MSE-shortcut, no result.
i tried to shutdown MSE by killing MspEng.exe, but it didnīt work.

i tried to kill msseces.exe, which was succesful.
i clicked my MSE-shortcut, and now the MSE taskbar-icon is back !

so the solutions seems to be: kill msseces.exe and restart MSE.
