I highly recommend the Avast free product and while many other products do not use their best scanning engine in their free offerings the same can not be said about Avast.....You get the SAME protection from their free as their paid versions. The main difference between paid and free is the sandbox which you only get with the paid version.

As has been posted prior however it is really a personal choice that you must make for yourself.

ESET NOD32 only provides virus and spyware protection while SmartSecurity is ESET's internet security solution, providing virus/spyware protection, and a firewall. Both do not have maintenance tools or functions.

The OP is pertaining to all-in-one security solutions that does not only provide protection against malware but also cleans up your PC or does maintenance.

I understand that Kaperskey and BitDefender virus engines are both incorporated into G.Data? This being the best defence?

I am quite liking Kaspersky Internet Security. Though i also like the sound of Pure, but what detours me is, that the protection is based on the 2010 version. i like to be up to date with the latest protection!

Hmm, I have never heard that. Kaspersky comes out of St,Petersbourg, Russia, BitDefender is from Roumania and G-Data from Bochum, Germany. I doubt that they have a cooperation going on.

G Data uses Avast! and BitDefender engines. I don't know what version of BitDefender but it uses an earlier Avast! engine.

The Kaspersky engine (don't know the version) is used in ZoneAlarm products.

Seeing as SONAR 3 in Norton was mentioned, it should be noted that

SONAR 3 is a behaviour blocker; it doesn't come into play during an on-demand scan.

I prefer Norton, It's great. The Firewall works the way it should, also, the SONAR is brilliant.
