    Anti Virus Suggestions ?

    Hi,

    What a truly great Forum.

As I recently posted, AVG-Free anti virus caused me all sorts of problems.
Had to do a System Restore to get back going again.

I could never get the MS Security Essentials to run on my PC, although their Windows Defender works fine. Apparently I'm not the only one who experienced difficulty in getting MS Security Essentials to run. Hard to understand.

Can anyone perhaps recommend a free anti-virus that they are reasonably sure
works, and is not noted for causing "problems" ?

Would be most appreciative for any suggestions.

    Much thanks, as always,
    Bob

Try Microsoft Security Essentials, used by many. Its made for windows. There is no reason that it should not work. Download after a system restore point and we will help.

    Cant lose me, sorry.

MS Security Essentials Problem In Installing

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for help with MS Security Essentials installation.

I get the same error msg irrespective of trying to install the 32 or 64 bit versions.
    I have the 64 bit W7 OS.

To the best of my knowledge, I do not think that I have any other anti-virus programs running.
I do have MS Windows Defender going. And their Firewall, I guess too.

    I have un-installed AVG-Free

    Msg. is: error code: 0x8004FF07

If I remember right, when I first tried with this a month or so back, there were many Forum msgs regarding others who ran into this. The cure seemed to be fairly involved, and more than I wanted to play with at the time.

Is there something "simple," for a Sr. Citizen like me ?

    Much thanks,
    Bob

MSE should turn off Defender. Do it before download to be sure that it is off.

Avast! free is a top performer (beats MSE by a long way)

Avast seems to be excellent. Avira is another option. Avira AntiVir Personal - Free Antivirus But is is very strange that you cannot install MSE.

are you downloading security essentials directly from microsoft? there is a fake version floating around out there.
also, i heard that security essentials is now available through windows update. have you tried that?

    What's the Best Anti-virus?

Unfortunately, no anti-virus is guaranteed problem free. It is probably best to find out why MSE is having problems instead of/before trying another.

You should probably run the AVG Remover in case any AVG files were left behind.

Probably the Best Free Security List in the World
