I've been using NIS for about 3 years and have no problems. The program works in the background and is very good at protecting your system. Xfinity (Comcast) used to provide McAfee with your subscription, but now offer free Norton...
Norton. It's much lighter than BitDefender (Norton consumes 12mb RAM), and more effective too.
I guess they are both good. I use and like NIS 2011 (apart from MSE on my Vista systems). NIS has come a long way since years ago where they really had all sorts of problems. But their support sucks (both phone and chat room). Don't expect to ever get a good answer out of them.
I had a problem with the NIS Firewall. It prevents the Tracert command to run. I went thru 3 levels of their support structure. They wasted 3 hours of my time without an answer. Then I went on the Norton Forum and there was the answer. A Symantec Senior Quality Assurance manager had posted that this was a known problem and that it will be fixed with the next update. Now why did the support guys not know that - and at all levels. But that was not the only disappointing experience with these people.
