Maybe we should produce a mouse left click finger condom to help us stay safe on the web. Just a little reminder that it can get you into more trouble than almost anything else.
With windows 7 most viruses and harmful things need your permission to install themselves. Common sense is the best antivirus out there.
I had a boss that used to describe this to upset customers that got viruses while running antivirus software: "if you have a deadbolt and peephole on your house door yet you open the door to the axe-murderer and invite him in, well yea hes gunna kill you."
It may just be me but MSE seems to have the basic stuff to keep you safe. Personally I don't feel safe just having the basic stuff (W7 is also pretty basic). I opted to get Norton AntiVirus 2011 (Norton has stepped up their game since 09) and Comodo Firewall. I use MBAM and SAS as my two On Demand Scanners. Along with common sense my PC is fine as far as I can tell, I haven't had Norton pick anything up, and I do a lot of stuff 7F tells you not to do, especially when my GF is out of town.
My mind works in Video Game mode. So I guess you can say MSE and W7 Firewall are Leather Armor while Norton and Comodo are Iron Armor (if you're going by WoW)
You can check any listed website in Norton safe web: Norton Safe Web, from Symantec
Apart from Norton's official review, people also post feedbacks there.
File sharing websites (Rapidshare, Hotfile etc), Adult websites, Hack/Crack supplying websites do harbor malicious softwares.
I agree with DustSailor, all it takes is having two a/v's start a system scan. The usual end result is reinstalling windows.
I have never seen complaints about MSE. I tried it in conjunction with a Kaspersky Internet Security, Norton Internet Security, Panda Internet Security and Bitdefender Internet Security. There was not a problem. )))
