I'll clarify it.
Avast has been catching a bug on this site below for me recently.
And it has caught many trojans from Usenet. I knew that most were already though.
Virus - Unofficial World of Warcraft Forums
OK, I checked that link you posted and loaded the "trojan" disguised as a jpg and nothing. A browser is not going to execute jpgs as javascript.
The contents of logo.jpg: http://pastebin.com/f78e90a58
So I guess that doesn't qualify as something that would have infected you.
Thanks for your info though.
I know the wow site was fixed. I went to the actual site that infects you...b35.info. The wow site loaded a file from there. From the thread at the wow site...
I also visit those types of sites but I've never been infected even without running any AV.
I think a lot of it is like that logo.jpg that Dixon Butz pointed me to. It's really a false positive even though it's malicious code. I kinda recall one hotfix for a gdi exploit in jpgs but that was patched a long time ago.
the one time I got a nasty I had (yeah I know) disabled AV for some maint. thing and loaded an unknown disk. I get alot of false positives but nothing else. I have become so used to ESS doing its job I dont even really monitor like a hawk. MSE is a little touchy. It even thought its own virus defs were a virus

Have been running a netbook on public, free, and unsecured wifi for a month w/o any real-time AV (no infections). Hint: online scanners.
