Thanks Ciara :)
There is a reason why Antivirus SW like Avast, Avira etc. Have an manual update option.
Regarding why I need this option in MSE is that I am on a slow and limited download internet plan and only visit trusted sites MSE or Avast (used before MSE) has never detected a threat on my system in months.
comeon mods why did you edit my post, was just beginning to have a good round with our aussie friend here

Understand your reason why you would prefer to avoid auto update due to service limitation but it only takes one trojan to get through and steal your bank details etc...... The guys here are giving you best advice based on their experiences, you CAN ignore them if you want to, that is your prerogative.. but it would be like driving the wrong way up a one way street....
Well, lets get it right. Automatic updates will not consume much of your limited monthly allowance, they are typically about few megabytes(depends on the product) so your usage is not really affected. If you disable it, then your next step could be reinstalling your system, following a virus party. When you want to disable something regarding your av then read what others posted.
