lol....yup, starts at noon every day, and I just let it go on in the background while I continue to do whatever I was doing.

    Umm.... No???

I think common sense dictates a daily full scan isn't needed
So maybe I'm being a little paranoid?
My family tech guru lives five hours away, so I guess maybe I am a little too careful. I've made it over a year now, with tons of online time without catching any viruses, but hey, if you guys think the default weekly scan is good enough, I'm willing to give it a shot. And I was never known for my common sense, either.

I might do a "full" scan about once a month, but my "quick" scans are scheduled weekly. That works for me.

In over 15 years of personal computing, I have NEVER done scheduled scans.

The purpose of anti-virus and anti-malware applications is to prevent bad stuff from ever getting on your PC.

If the applications are doing the job, a scan should find nothing. In my case, that is exactly what has happened whenever I do a manual scan. Nothing found.

Nothing wrong with scheduled scans and to each his own, etcetera.

I do a manual once a month or so, out of obsessiveness as much as anything.

Yeah, cause you can never be too careful. I'm pretty careful of where I browse, what I open, or put on my machine.... yet my recent scan found Java issues.... so you never know

As you said, to each his own.

Hi All Ive had this version installed for 3 days now and for sure the system icon is not as animated as it used to be.(at least in my case)The system icon no longer displayes the arrow symbol when updating automatically unless its done manually with the interface open. Also the scan started pop up that used to appear has gone.I can only presume this is because of the extra information they have put on the update tab regarding update times. Has anyone else noticed this lack of animation from the system icon. Dan

So how's the network inspection tool? Can anyone show a screenshot of it? I won't be able to see it until later tonight when I go home and update.
There is not much to look at. It's a Sub-setting in Settings.

As far as I can tell it's either on or off.
    A different opinion.
    • Network Inspection System
      • Attackers are increasingly carrying out network-based attacks against exposed vulnerabilities before software vendors can develop and distribute security updates. Studies of vulnerabilities show that it can take a month or longer from the time of an initial attack report before a suitable security update is developed, tested, and released. This gap in protection leaves many computers vulnerable to attacks and exploitation for a substantial period of time. Network Inspection System works with real-time protection to better protect you against network-based attacks by greatly reducing the timespan between vulnerability disclosures and update deployment from weeks to a few hours.

Well, that's certainly interesting mate. It seems there are only a few added features to this release. But that's how I like my Security Software, simple.

I've backread a couple of pages and noticed some people had JAVA malware issues. I'm quite hesitant to update due to that. Are there any other opinions regarding that?

Also, once I update, I'll be doing some network testing to see how much the network inspection feature would affect speeds.

    Happy New Year everyone!

I was one of them that had the Java issues. I removed Java for a few days, then decided to re-install and do another full scan. This time there were no problems. So, could be those 10 files that originally showed up as infected, really were, or it was a false positive. I'm going to do more frequent full scans just to check. Not sure what to think for now.

I also pointed out the Java issues but since then have had no more reports. Could have been a false positive, could have been those files where problematic and an update fixed the issue.

Anyways since removing those files I've had no more notices from MSE and I'm still using java.

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for the input. I've jumped into the bandwagon and updated about 20 minutes ago.

I'll be trying to update JAVA but I believe I already have the latest version. I'll do a full scan afterward and see what happens. I'll let you guys know
