    User account help

    Hi all,

I have just done a fresh install of vista on my laptop, i only have 1 account on it which is the admin account, i have done the exact same thing on my fresh install of 7 on my desktop but the problem i keep having is whenever i want to move or delete a file it keeps saying i need admin rights to do this. All i have to do is click yes a couple of times and it lets me do what i want but i dont know why i have to do this everytime. I am the admin signed in on the only account on the machine, is this a possible permission issue?

For example when i right click a folder in program files and go to the security tab there is 2 accounts Liam-laptop\administrator which has full control and liam-laptop\users which only has read & execute, list folder contents and read permissions. Why is there 2 accounts?

Sorry for sounding kinda stupid im sure its something straight forward but having trouble understanding it

    Welcome
Although annoying that is a safety feature. Maybe you had a hard day at work or school, your mind is elsewhere. You try to make a change that will affect the system rather than just your account you get the reminder and you have to approve. It can be turned off, but that is not suggested.
User Account Control - UAC - Change Notification Settings
UAC makes it more difficult for an outside force to make changes; virus etc

It is your computer and you can do as you see fit. I leave mine on.

Hi mate thanks for the responce, its not the UAC that keeps popping up its the prompt that "you need admin rights to move or delete the selected files" not worded exactly like that but hopefully you see what i mean. Should i set my users\liam-laptop account to full control if so how do i go about doing it?

    thanks again mate

The problem is that you think that you are the administrator, but you are not a full administrator, there is a hidden full power administrator
Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable[2]=User Accounts
This was added to Vista and Windows 7 cause of how easy it was for hackers, spyware and virus makers to gain access to a PC cause the Administrator was live and active when you accessed Safe Mode. Now the Full Admin account is Disabled. So even if you do boot to Safe Mode you still will NOT see it as a account that you can log into.
You can use this full power administrator, but I do not think that you should. Using the Adminstrator is the easiest way to have less of a problem, but again not suggested.
    Run as Administrator

Thank you, Rich. This clears up a lot of confusing behavior I was experiencing.
