    MBAM log files and SSD

    Hi,

If you choose to install Malwarebytes onto your SSD, then the logfiles are by default stored in:

    C:\Users\{Name}\AppData\Roaming\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs

    and also

    C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs

Why the two different locations, I have no idea. There is no way to change the location of the logfiles during installation. They can be changed post-installation using command line parameters, as shown below:

    Code:
    mbam.exe /logtofile E:\Security_Logs\mbam_log_files\mbam-security-log.txt
However, this means that the logfiles can no longer be accessed by the MBAM GUI - not ideal.

I have requested an upgrade to the software that allows a user to nominate the preferred location of logfiles. I'm not sure how successful this will be.

In the meantime, I wonder if anyone has opinions on how good/bad/indifferent it is having lots of these small files written to an SSD? Do you just delete them constantly? How does this affect the SSD? What is your experience with the multitude of log files and SSD performance?

    Regards,
    Golden

Hi Jacee. Yep, I did that, and now have changed a setting not to create the log files. I was wondering what impact it would have, longer term I guess, if many thousands of log files were written and deleted from the SSD? Presumably over time, the performance of the SSD decreases?

    Different

I had to be diffrent, of course. The logs were only present in one location:

    C:\Users\{Name}\AppData\Roaming\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs

I can't really remember but it seems to me that some previous version wrote the logs to the install directory. I dimly remember cleaning the out.

Were the files not present in the other location because they were copies and I had already deleted the from the aforementioned directory?

I'm unsure why you only have files in one location, but I'm trying to find out how/why the logfiles are spread across different locations in the MBAM forum. If I get an answer, I'll post back here.

I have been in touch with MBAM : the will apparently forward my suggestion, to allow users to nominate the logfile location during installation, to their developers.
