What is the Best anti-virus for 2011?
-
what really bothers me is after all these years that microsoft has been around, is the fact that you still have to use an antivirus program.....
No traditional blacklist AV here for a few years now and I deliberately download and run any and all malware samples I can get a hold of.
My real system security is Sandboxie, Shadow Defender and Drive Snapshot images.
My XP/Win7 Virtual Machines have various testing setups with other good security apps such Defensewall, Geswall, Bufferzone and Returnil.

Same here for almost 2 years without a single Malware detection on either of my computers. Not long after I started running my browser in the virtual space of Sandboxie I realized that I didn't need a traditional blacklist Antivirus any longer I just use Virus Total and a handful of on demand virus scanners to check out anything I want to download from online.

Kis 2011
Just for the KIS 2011 fans like myself the latest version is .556 (b.c). Runs like a dream but that's because I don't really like scanners that run real fast (although a I do a MBAM free - full version inteferes with KIS as a back up) - full scan with full heuristics on mine - evrything - 30- 40 mins (while you are having a break).

No, not at all. It was the 556 BC which caught my attention. Was supposed to be a joke.

Had me worried there
Crikey whs had me worried there for a minute old mate as we are sometimes a bit behind you US blokes in some tech stuff,
Yeh only found out myself when I clicked on the support button at bottom of the GUI mind you I thought an update that ran out of my auto setings for updates was abit out of character.

I just tried ESET Smart Security trial and it found 3 threats that Webroot and Microsoft failed to find.
I am running a second scan and it found another threat which makes me wonder why it wasn't found on the first sweep.
Also, the scan quickly jumps to 88% complete and stays there until almost complete.

Make sure their not false positives before deleting.

Are you running two AV's i5? or trying the Eset without disabling or uninstalling the Webroot & ?MSE as you could be having a litle bit of a conflict going on there.
I know that my Kaspersky 2011 doesn't even like the shortened version of MBAM running and lets me KNOW!
I think you'll find that just about everyone will tell you if you want to try another AV then you will have to at least disbale every other one you have installed if not unistall.
If you go the latter route there is a very good tutorial on doing it properly - it includes just about all the major "players"
