I dumped MSE, kept Malwarebytes, wimped out and bought NIS2011.

Thanks, it always seems like a different process - But at least I'm expanding my MS error KB library!

Well I got the MSE Update window so I clicked on update it. ended up freezing my system. Then i had to do a startup repair. MSE wouldn't work so i uninstalled it using CCleaner then re-installed it after that now everything is back to normal.
I know I read somewhere on here that Avast and MSE were designed to work together and I never had any problems till the new update I just got.
    My 2cents worth.

Francis93 and I got the update installed slowly and it just got worse with every new definition update to where the System Locked up.

Just continuous lock ups. Francis managed to recover and dumped the MSE.

    Mine were unrecoverable.
I had to re image and dump the MSE. Tried it twice same result.

Also tried registry clean up and nothing was left of MSE to remove.

This recent MSE update freezes PCs running Avast software first. It seems that from this update onwards, MSE would be incompatible with Avast. Users that are solely running MSE (without Avast) shouldn't experience this kind of problem.

Thanks for the clarification. I hadn't experienced the problems being discussed and this explains why.

I'm running the updated version of MSE and Avast 5 without any problems now. However as explained above I did at first experience the freeze, and had to do as ex-plained to get them both to work.

I understand that their is a debate about running 2 anti virus programs and I don't and haven't except for once experienced a virus attack when I tried to download a New Years photo and Avast caught it when MSE didn't so you decide.

Do we have a solution to this problem ?.. I may have missed it if so.
This forum is much better than to leave one in need of help dangling like this..
    MY opinion !!!
