    Microsoft Security Essentials

Is Microsoft Security Essentials part of Windows 7? If so, is it available in all versions? I have it on the netbook I purchased online that has Windows 7 Starter. I know it's free and seems to do a pretty decent job.

It isn't part of Windows, but it can be downloaded for free on any version of Windows. It does a great job, and should work fine for your system.

Microsoft Security Essentials is a separate offering from Microsoft. It's not bundled with Windows 7 it is a separate download all by itself. All versions of windows 7 are supported including 32 bit and 64 bit. Vista and XP (32 bit only) are also supported.

Looks like it's being pushed through now as optional Windows Update for machines with no AV.

    Anyone else getting the Update?

It's such a lean AV Updates installs it easier than Silverlight or Live Essentials.

It's not a part of Windows 7 itself to prevent more Anti-trust litigation with US and EU. However it's offered for free online for any version as previously stated. Also RE: being pushed out as optional: Good on Microsoft for doing some effort to make computers more secure.
