As for a free AV I would recommend Avast5/MSE, but if your want more protection try out trial versions of major vendors and see which one suites you best, I use KIS

Here are the most popular ones:

    Norton AV/IS/360
    Kaspersky IS/AV/Pure
    Avast Free/Pro/IS
    AVG
    Avira
    Eset

I'm running MSE, Sandboxie and Malwarebytes. All free and provide different levels of protection, but overlap well.

I'd take the Microsoft over Norton, actually I'd never take the Norton. KIS works for me.
